There aren't really many other anime series similar to Death Note out there... It's quite an original anime that can't be compared to many others...

Well sure, if you are into detective anime, I would recommend magic kaito, code geass, psychic detective yakumo, psycho pass, nogami neuro...
Still, if you talking about the certain feel...like the elegant feel, I can recommend some other anime which gives of similar feeling.

Like Serei no moribito(I just finished watching it...and it's just amazing!), GTO(just ignore the stupid stuff), Ruroni kenshin, D-gray man.....
In these anime you can find deduction in various situations by the main protagonist that simply amazes you just like death note.

I'm definitely seconding Majin Tantei Nogami Neuro. It gives similar vibes to Death Note, and Neuro is cool as hell.

Some recommendations from my side:
Mirai Nikki( Not that many similarities except there's lot of killings. It does give a similar kind of feeling though.)

Monster (One of the most underrated shows. Its like twice as long as Death Note and its awesome as hell.)

Zankyou no Terror (I would be spoiling this if I tried to explain the similarities. But you should definitely check it out.)

One Outs (Its like a smart character like Light/L in baseball. Highly psychological.)
