Admin activation or recruitment.

As you guys can see, recently we have many spammers crashing into AMF.
We have tried really hard to delete their accounts as well as posts but they just keep on registering in this forum.

Clara modified the security question a bit, but I doubt that would stop them for quite a while.
So, we are thinking of enabling admin activation or recruiting more members.
So, what do you think should be done?

Not sure what recruiting more members will do, but my suggestion is if you got high spam rate:

use all possible security features Mybb offers on the registration page (Q&A, recaptcha, require fields filled out, ect.)
have email link confirm turned on
make a new starting user group that is extremely limited till they are easily promoted.

Well, clara changed the security question and she is the responsible for such stuff.
She is the only one who knows technical stuff in this forum.
