In some anime, it's too exaggerated.
I have seen one too many cliches when it comes to anime, in the name of honor. What do you think of it?

It’s based on that Bushido stuff

Not always.
I remember stuff about the Quincy's honor in Bleach anime. So, it can be related to some fictional element too.

It’s basically just a code of honor for samurai. It’s their version of chivalrous knights in Western media. Soldiers in Japan practiced it until the end of World War 2.

it's not that bad
and people care a lot about their honor back in the day
probably even now and they wants to be remembered as the coolest guy only.
