Its the first one to leave Japan, so they left the number out. Apparently Dragon Quest 8 did the same thing in PAL regions, because it was the first entry to be released there. It’s also “technically” the 6th game, the mainline kind of pulled a Metal Gear.

So you have:
Megami Tensei 1, then Megaten 2
Then you had Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2
Then you have SMT If (mainline but not numbered, don’t worry, I don’t get it either)
SMT 3
SMT Strange Journey (read SMT If)
SMT 4 and SMT 4 Apocalypse
SMT 5

I see.. well yes i didn't get the chance playing SMT 1 and 2 lol, i play more Personas than SMT. If i remember correctly SMT 1 and 2 was released for SNES, then jump to PS2 with Lucifer Call, isn't that right?

Most people know Persona more than SMT, mostly due to only the games from 3 onward we’re localized, while all 6 Persona games left Japan. Though Persona fans also ignore Persona 1 and both 2’s. The only way to play the old SMT games is via fan translated ROM’s via emulator.

But yeah, Atlus jumped from SNES to PS2 between If and Nocturne, but they did remake all 3 SNES games on the PS1.

Why they ignore Persona 1 and 2? Persona 2 is a good game

Persona 3-5 is super weab friendly, the whole anime superhero life sim thing has wide appeal, but the first 3 Persona (when I mean 3, I’m referring to both Persona 2’s)games were just JRPG’s, and didn’t have life sim stuff, so those are completely ignored.

That, and a lot of JRPG franchises that get popular at a specific entry, most fans pretend the older titles don’t exist. A lot of the time, the best game in a franchise translates as “the only one they played”.

Digital Devil Saga is a duology, and the big thing about those, is how you don’t recruit demons or summon anything, your character has a single demon form. You have a skill learning system, so you have to grind to learn new spells and abilities to mix and match on each character.
