Okay so you do know that I don't know what those things mean right lol
But I'm guessing it might have been a different genre right

Seinen isn't some philosophical deep dive into the subconscious mind, it's a genre for young adults. And in all those examples the main protagonists are relatively old(I've no idea about Battle Royale).

As far as Tokyo Ghoul is concerned did you watch the anime or read the manga. I don't like reading manga in general or anything related to manga but I found the manga to be better paced.
Also going by your preference what do you think of Evangelion?

" Justice is subject to dispute; might is easily recognized and is not disputed. So we cannot give might to justice, because might has gainsaid justice, and has declared that it is she herself who is just. And thus, being unable to make what is just strong, we have made what is strong just."

I thought the first season was alright but I dropped it only after a few episodes of the second season.

It's not always philosopical, philosopical theme is depend on the author, whether if they want to add something philosopical or not, and whether they want to show it subtle or not.

Shuuya in Battle Royale is just teen school boy, same like Shinichi, and Kaneki is just freshman in university, so all of them are under 20. Oh yea about Tokyo Ghoul i read the manga, i assumed there is no significant differences between both version so it's not really important

As for Evangelion i like the series. Why? I like the story, and also important to mention that Shinji isn't the Luffy-type main protagonist. Is the softie? Yes. Is he weak? Yes. Is he a coward? Yes. That's how the series portrayed Shinji at first but he make it and develop his character through out the series until he regressed again on The End of Evangelion
