No but not because of the animation. DB just never was good to begin with. And I can see your point with most anime from the 60s like speed racer and Cutie Honey. The art style was almost cupie doll for most of the characters. But from the mid 70s to the late 90s anime had some truly epic artis.

New genres develop when a trend for a certain type of story is asked for by consumers. Mabey the next new genre will be octopus ninja anime or sushi based anime who knows?

It seams to me that a lot of anime fans these days are kind of spoilt. Always looking for the next new thing rather then appreciating a well crafted story because they have seen something similar.
